Happy new year 2016

On behalf of the Tardis Advice Team I would like to wish you all a wonderful 2016. I hope it is a year that lives up to potential and is filled with happiness and good health.

At the start of every year I like to set out themes for the year.  I am still working on a 2016 theme; past themes have included “have fun”, “get stuff done”, and “be present”.

I am also a big fan of specific written goals. I like to have goals that are between three and six months duration, a maximum of twelve months. As many of you know I am very involved in road cycling and running. I won’t use the word ‘always’, but there have be very very few times in the past where I have not had a written goal related to an upcoming event. This year my big event is cycling the French Alps in June/July. I wrote specific goals related to this event when I committed to it in the third quarter of 2015. My shoulder surgery in December 2015 and upcoming birth of my first child have meant some modifications to my training program and thus goals. I am sure once I am out of a sling and start rehabilitation, and enter parenthood, my goals will once again need to be revised. The priority for me is that I have clear written goals. I find what works for me and helps me to achieve is to have written goals that I read regularly. I often carry my goals with me in my pocket when I am at work, have them stuck on my computer screen or pinned to the fridge. Having written goals is something that works really well for me.

Whatever your opinion of goal setting, I do hope that 2016 is a year of achievements and accomplishments.

I have a good feeling about 2016, possibly it will be the best year yet!

Looking forward to seeing you in 2016.
